If anybody out there has much experience working with Apache for Windows, or any of the newer Netgear routers (namely operating port forwarding and internal/external access of server equipment), I'd greatly love to talk. Been wrestling with mine for a day or two now and can't seem to get it spot on how I'd like it >

Got my Bag of Crap from Woot.com today x3 I'm all excited, I completely expected to get nothing worth mentioning since about half the people the last day or two had reported getting pretty much nothing beyond the Curious George Bath Kit and like, Online Shopping Guide 2005 hardback, or Yanni, In Words hardback.. but I guess I lucked out!

I got the obligatory Curious George bath kit (no clue what to do with that), a Bargain Hunter's Handbook hardback book, a refurbished (and working flawlessly) 2GB Creative MP3 player (has a nice little screen and came with all the cables and such), and the gem of the batch, a 10.4" 640x480 photo frame with a card reader built in, as well as surprisingly high quality stereo speakers and several different decoders, so not only can I look at pictures on it, but it plays MP3s at a very listenable quality, and can even play AVI, MPG, etc movies. It decodes DIVX with no issue. I never would have bought one of these normally but getting one for $8 I can't complain at all. Hell the MP3 player alone is worth more than $8 so the picture frame is pretty much free. I have it right now on the kitchen table with my gallery of commissions and giftart of Hyp and myself on it, but I'm sure it'll get put to even better use as maybe a bedroom stereo/mini TV for watching movies in bed or something x3

It occurred to me last night that this officially marks the longest I have been away from home without being able to visit; I've spent semesters in dorms, lived on my own, etcetera, but never far enough away that I couldn't drive a few hours and hang out at my mum's place for a bit, pet the dog, get free food, and all the other usual stuff. While I do miss home a bit, I don't regret where I am so it's not a worry to me, I'll go back eventually for a visit; until then, I will have a great time right where I am at, lack of rain included.

As far as how things are going here, I still don't have a job, but hopefully that won't be much longer. Currently I'm playing the "at-home" dragon; doing cleaning and cooking and pouncing on return for Hyp, while he works his ass off at his job (poor guy). In general, things are going even better than I had expected; even the bird is content as she can be (doubly so when she has something to shred or destroy).

I'm considering starting to try to draw again, and maybe post some of the sketches here on LJ, would anyone be annoyed if I did that? I sort of quit before because I got a little frustrated with myself never having anything I felt good enough to post to FA, figure maybe if I put it here instead it might work better x3

In other news, got a wonderful commission finished from the lovely Kitoxa, a kickass Kas reference sheet! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1593149/ Been a long time and this is the first real picture of Kaseria, so I'm glad to finally get that done <3 and so well too!

Just got my second Bag of Crapx3 from Woot.com x3 Eeee

Last time a few months ago I got some awesome stuff, wireless Microsoft mouse with fingerprint reader, portable power chargers, and a few other nifty trinkets.. can't wait to see what I get this time.

For anyone who doesn't know, woot.com sells one item a day for a decent price, but every now and then they have woot-off's to get rid of left over stockpile, where they sell whatever they have and as soon as that item sells out they list another, and usually once per wootoff, they sell a "Bag of Crap", which costs $1 and has random tech or other stuff in it, you can order up to three, but it's difficult as the servers lag to hell.

I somehow managed to get through and now I'm excited to see what I get :D

Bike!

Well after having to sell my precious Mustang a month or so ago to make the trip to California, I've finally got myself a good set of wheels again!

however, this time, it's in the form of a new bike. It was pretty expensive, but it's got a wonderfully improved range over my old $80 Wal*Mart bike, it can coast forever and is incredibly easy to pedal. Also, I didn't even know you could get disk brakes on bikes.. next thing someone's going to tell me they have drum brakes too ._.

Today it's back to the bike store again for two "trunk" bags to go on the rack so I can carry groceries (thanks for the idea, Kisty <3), and a kick stand because it's annoying having to lean it against everything >>

Well I'm finally 23 years old.. normally birthday's aren't very exciting for me but this year it's barely started and it's already awesome. I am still in shock that Hyp got me a Playstation 3. Probably the biggest gift I've ever gotten that isn't from my mother x3 Thanks so much darling! We picked up Burnout Paradise and Ratchet and Clank for it so far.. I'm a little anxious to get a Blu-ray movie or two as well, but after managing to pick up six HD-DVDs for less than $5 a piece at Fry's, it's difficult to be willing to pay $20-30 for a Blu-Ray disk >>

Arimah also did something really nice for me; shi mailed me a card all the way from Sweden with a picture printed on the front cover as well as one on the inside, and the card is a metallic silver too, it's awesome x3 The inside cover image is the one I put at the start of the post, that one really surprised me, it's adorable x3 other is here.

It's technically only six hours in and yet it's probably the best birthday I've ever had, so I'm feeling really good today. Plus, my blue has morning shift today, so he's going to get home this afternoon to me and take me to Leatherby's for an excessively big ice cream, which I'm very much looking forward to >>

Thank you for making this such a wonderful birthday; I'm used to it slipping by unnoticed to most everyone so this has been awesome x3 much <3!

Just thought I'd share some very adorable art that my amazing, beautiful sister Arimah has surprised me with! Neither piece was expected, but they're both adorable and sweet as hell x3

The first, by Rhÿnn (thanks for teaching me the ÿ ._.), is just a touching moment between myself and hir, second, by GaiasAngel, is a cute thing shi does a lot which is decorating my horns with flowers x3

Thank you so much Arimah, I still can't believe you got these pictures done for me x3 They're adorable as hell.

A few weeks ago I was taking a night drive with my roommate to escape the hot, small apartment for a bit, and was out in a part of town I don't go to often.. was going about 30-35 and got to an unlit, unmarked instant 90* turn, by the time I saw it, and hit the brakes, I wasn't able to stop the car and it hopped the curb and hit a sign, which proceeded to try to chop my roomie's face off. It ended up just bouncing off the windshield and shattering a lot of glass but not hurting anyone, thankfully.

However the car was relatively beat up, so I called the insurance, and they came out to check on it, gave me an estimate of ~$3,227.50 to fix it all up, minus $1k deductible, so $2227.50 check. That was about as close as I could get to it being totaled without actually losing it.. Bluebook value puts it at ~$4.1k trade-in. I initially planned to fix it up to running (Windshield, realign the wheels), and use the rest for bills, which would really help me get on top of things.

Today I finally was able to start the process.. got the car towed to an autoglass shop to get a fresh new windshield installed and the glass shards cleaned out of the fabric of the seats. Then I got in the car and drove it to the Sears Autoshop, because they had been awesome to me in the past and I figured they'd get my alignment set as good as any.

Well.

Turns out my engine cradle's bent 3" back on the right. offsets my engine, also screws up my wheel alignment something fierce. Also may be pinning my flywheel, which would explain why my car doesn't start half the time now.. Base guestimate to have the engine removed, cradle replaced, car fixed up, and engine put back in? ~$3k. minimum. provided nothing else is wrong.

in other words, GG Mustang. Also means that now I'm going to probably have to find a new car. The insurance company MIIIGHT pay for repairs since they've already started paying but.. given that most likely the repair total's going to be double the value of the car itself, something tells me I won't be so lucky.

Also still don't have a full-time job so I can't get an auto loan right now.

Anybody want a copy of Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode 1?

I finally have it! my new computer! It's been a long time coming, and it completely kicks ass..

I ended up with:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra PCI-E overclocked to 660MHz
4GB of G-Skill dual channel PC 6400
320GB Seagate Barracuda parallel storage SATA HDD
MSI P6N SLI 680i mainboard
OCZ 550w PSU with 4 18v rails
Samsung DVD+- R/RW drive with Lightscribe
All packed into a shiny, cool, silent Antec 900 case

I plugged my G15, mouse, 22" Samsung widescreen (with the 19" for extra screen space) and my X-Fi external sound card into it and holy crap this computer has shown me what it's like to actually be near the top for once.

Running at 1680x1050 resolution, I've been pulling off 100+ FPS in Second life, 60-80 FPS in Shattrath in WoW, DiRT demo at "Ultra" settings runs 45 FPS or so, HL2 I've actually seen 300+ FPS in gameplay a time or two, mostly hangs in the 200's though.. BF2142 runs 100 FPS or so; and I got almost 12,000 on my 3DMark6 test.

This going up from the old Athlon 64 3400+ computer with a 6800 Ultra AGP that was starved for power for a year and a half which tended to crash, lock up constantly, and made me feel happy if I got 10 FPS on medium-low settings on most afforementioned games. It's an experience in pure awesome and win.. and once it's time to upgrade, just pick up another 8800U once they're cheaper and drop it in for SLI and the motherboard can support quad core and up to 8GB of memory.

This has got to be one of the best birthdays I've ever had, and it's still 10 days until the actual day. Extra <3's to Hyp for buying my DVD burner drive for me :3

Now if I can get an extra HDD or two, I got a better PSU for my old system and could probably make it into a perfectly viable backup computer

Not normally one to brag but this is just SO AWESOME x3...
